Zentangle®

I have come across an article that was sent from Zentangle, Inc. called "Calm Down and Get Your Zentangle On".  The article was in Psychology Today.   It is a good article and I thought you might like to read it.  Click the link here.

Meanwhile, here are some newer Zentangle and ZIAs...

The following 3 pics are Christmas cards that I made for my 3 fellow CZTs.

Hope you enjoyed reading the article and seeing some of my new projects.
Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah to all!

I am the Diva Challenge 190

This is one challenge that I thought I should definitely enter.  It is all about breast cancer, since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  My mom had breast cancer in her 40's.  In her late 70's and early 80's, she had numerous bouts with other cancers.  She passed away at the age of 83 from pancreatic cancer.  She never got to know about my own cancer (thank God) and never knew about Zentangle® or that I became a CZT, because of cancer!  I am entering this challenge in her memory @ I am the Diva CZT.  I am also dedicating it to the Diva's grandmother, Ardath who passed away from breast cancer.

I am also entering it in Adele Bruno's Tickled to Tangle String Thing #66.

Thanks for looking!

Gallery Showing and Sold Pieces

Hi all.  It has been over a month since I last posted.  I have been very busy.  On October 10th, I was a guest artist at an art gallery (Gallery East - Belleview, FL).  I had a showing of my Zentangles® and Zentiagle Inspired Art (ZIAs).  The main purpose for me was to try to get students, either at the gallery or privately.  I think I was successful in my quest.  I spoke with a lot of people and gave out a lot of business cards!  I also sold one of my pieces.  It was a 10"x10" framed butterfly.  Here is a pic of that piece, before it was framed.

This is the second piece that I have sold.  Last month, I sold blue butterfly.  It was done in a 12"x16" frame.  Larger than the one above.  You can see it in my last post.  Believe it or not, the blue one was sold online.  I put an add on a local website about the happenings in the Villages, where I live.  I saw a link for the classifieds and I just put a picture of it on the site.  The very next day, I had someone that said she wanted to buy it!  She was going to buy it unframed, but my husband had just finished matting and framing it before I got her email.  When she saw it framed, she bought the whole package!  What a thrill it was for me!

That's all I have time for right now.

See what I did!

Hi all.  I just have to show you what I did with my butterfly ZIA...I copied the B&W one on a lighter watercolor paper and then used my iridescent watercolor paints to give it color.  I decided to post it on a local web site.  They had a classified section and I just on a whim, posted it there, for sale.  I had a response the next morning from a woman who wanted to buy it!  By then, my husband had already made a mat for it.  She said that she would pay the extra money for the matting.  I have since, gotten 2 more orders for the butterflies!  I love the idea of printing out the B&W and painting that.  It leaves the original, untouched!

The pic hasn't been cropped or matted yet so There are some pencil marks on the top and warped lines from the scan.  These have all disappeared after it was matted.

Here is another new ZIA that I made using a rubber stamp, for the face.  The rays are done freehand.

This particular tile was made for a swap.  The theme was sun.

I hope you enjoy seeing my new work.

Until next time...

Large ZIAs

Hi all.  Here are some larger pieces that I have been working on...

I am planning on coloring this 8"X10" butterfly with iridescent watercolor paints.

I made this 5"X7" elephant for my husband as a welcome home gift.
He has been gone all summer and he really loves elephants.

I call this "The Owl and the Pussy Cat".  It looks like an owl in the background.
It is also scanned very crooked!  LOL!  It is 5"X7" and in a black frame.

This is the first large piece that I did.  The kitty cat is 8"X10".   I love the way it turned out!

The butterfly and the 2 cats are for sale...obviously, the elephant is not!

Some New Tiles

I have been working on a lot of tiles lately.  I have been going through a tough time (my son has been in a coma, resulting from an automobile accident and being hit by an 18 wheeler).  I am not sure if he will make it, so I have been doing a lot of tangling this past month or so.  Here are some of my more recent tiles...

When I have more time, I will try to post a lot more...enjoy!

A New Challenge...

Hi all!  Today I am posting a Zentangle tile that I made for a new challenge.  The site is Made by Joey weekly challenge.  This is her very first challenge and I decided that I am up to it!  The challenge was to use any pattern(s) within a 9 square "Tic Tac Toe" box.  I want to support Joey in her efforts so here is my first challenge for Joey's first challenge...

This was a simple and fun one to do!  I even tried to do a different kind of shading.

Good luck to Joey with her new challenges!

More Tiles and a Challenge

Hi all!  I have done another challenge for I am the Diva.  The challenge was to do a tile with a spiral going out.  I drew my string and started tangling.  I had no idea where I was going to go with it.  I thought I would just do a little Poke Leaf, one of my favorite fillers.  Then I just kept going around and around, spiraling out.  I ended up doing a mono tangle of just Poke Leaf!  I decided to shade the in-between spaces and all of a sudden, I had my tile!  I think it turned out really cool!
Mono Tangle for Diva Challenge #160

I was at a ladies' church function last week.  I was showing some people how easy it was to draw a Zentangle.  I drew a string and just did a couple of quick tangles to show them.  I didn't pay a lot of attention to what I was doing and didn't particularly like the tile that I had started, but I decided to finish it later.  I still didn't particularly like it but continued on...I finally decided that the only way to salvage it was to make it a ZIA and add color to it.  I used some iridescent watercolor paints and kept going until I was satisfied with it.  I wish you were able to see the iridescence.  It is much prettier in real life.  My husband thinks it is fantastic!  I am pleased with the outcome.

I did this Zentangle to try using a new tangle called Rixty.  It is in honor of Rick Roberts 60th birthday.  Get it?  Rick is sixty...Rixty!

This is another one that I did with Rixty.  I also wanted to use this string and I had a blue tile handy so I did it on the blue.  Interesting...

That's all for today.  I am working on some more challenges that I will post at a later day.

I am the Diva Weekly Challenge and 2 more tiles...

Hi all.  I have finally decided to make a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) and actually post it on I am the Diva's challenge blog.  As I mentioned in my last post, I made one, but didn't post it.  I figured it was time to bite the bullet and do it!

It is not quite what I expected.  It turned out a little dark, but it is my "first".  I sprayed it with a meadow green ink spray and then sprayed it again (lightly this time) with a gold ink.

Here are a couple more that I have done since yesterday.  I have been quite busy!

I thought this would be interesting with the heavy black line around it and the white in the middle.

With this one, I decided to leave a lot of white space.  I really like the way it turned out!
I guess 1 out of 3 isn't too bad!  LOL!

Some Interesting Work...

Hi all.  I have been doing some interesting work lately...

This first one is called Found and Tangled.  The object is to take a page from a book, highlight different words to make a poem (or something that kinda makes sense.  Then you can draw or tangle on it.  My poem says:
Spectacular Leaves across bright shining yellow flowers.
Clusters form rose-colored flowers.
Dense flower clusters spread seeds.
Leaves have arching branches with shiny flowers.

This next one is a Zentangle that I had done a while back.  I painted the wood frame and put the Zentangle into the opening.  This was donated as a piece for a Chinese auction to raise funds for Project Legacy.  The project raises funds to help children in my county.

I drew this one yesterday in Sunday School (where I do a lot of my work).  I finished the shading last night while waiting for friends for dinner.  I signed it on the back and presented it to them.  They are moving away in 2 days and I wanted them to have a small gift from me.

This last Zentangle was made for the Diva Challenge last week.  I don't think I actually submitted it, but here it is!

Hope you enjoy them!  Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!
Thanks,

Till next time...

More Zentangles® and ZIA's

It is already March 1st and I think I lost the whole month of February.  Where does time go?  I have been very busy, working on my Zentangle art.  I am involved in a couple of swaps.  The big swap is to make 53 artist trading cards.  That's a lot of tangling!  One of the tricks that I learned from other CZTs in the swap, was to do a large 5"x7" Zentangle and then cut it into 4 pieces that measure 2½" by 3½" (the size of the ATCs).  I did that with a few of them.  Meanwhile, here are a couple more pieces of my work...

This is one that I did the 5x7 and cut into 4s.

This is a regular size tile that I did for another swap.

Colorful 5x7 Zentangle®

I have just finished a colorful 5x7" Zentangle inspired art piece (ZIA).  I am doing a CZT swap and I need to make 53 artist trading cards (2 ½ x 3 ½ ).  Some of the other CZTs are making a 5x7 and cutting it so that they will actually have 4 cards in one piece.  Believe me, it is much easier to make 1 larger piece than it is to make 4 smaller ones.  I am able to work with larger tangles which take up much less time than the smaller ones.  Great tip from other CZTs!  Here is the original piece, before I cut it up.   I used iridescent water colors and I love the way it pops!  Hope you do too.

Mica Parrot

Hi all.  I wanted to share with you a ZIA (Zentangle® Inspired Art) that I just finished.  I originally did the parrot in black & white but later, decided to put some color into it.  I figured that I would get a great affect using mica powders.  I have so many colors that I will never use up!  Unfortunately, you can't really see the shimmer from the powders, but it still looks colorful and pretty.  Hope you like it!  Please leave me a message and let me know.  I just LOVE hearing from you!

January 13, 2014 More Tangles...

I have added more tiles for your looking pleasure...
Please leave a comment and let me know what you think.  I love to hear from you!

I made this for a St. Patty's Day card.  It can also be used for Valentine's Day with a red background.

Obviously, this one was a card for a new baby girl.

I found this round coaster on my dresser while on a cruise.  It is from Fat Tuesdays in the Caribbean.

Until next time...
